Passing Praise // Micah

Little man has really begun to pick up rhythm and tone. In a church, a car or an airport, he doesn’t care, anytime a song with a little beat pops on, his hips and lips start moving. Mommy has wisely capitalized on his interest by surrounding him with songs that point to Jesus and though he can’t really talk yet, he loves to dance and sing.

So Saturday night, as I prepared to give a talk on Sunday titled, “We Glorify Christ: the fuel for mission,” I was struck by the desire of King David to not just praise God personally but to give the gift of praise to the generation to follow. After study, I laid down for a minute, contemplating Psalm 145 while listening to some worship. As I settled in, out of the corner of my eye, I saw my son standing at the edge of the bed, one hand with blanky the other reaching for daddy. He was watching me worship and wanted to join in.

That’s when Ps145:4 really hit me, “One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.” I pulled him up and we snuggled into the praise of “Yahweh.” A magical moment and a timely reminder. As we approach Thanksgiving Day, may we remember we are not only called to individual worship but to be about the Passing of Praise.

Psalm 145:21 “My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless His holy name forever and ever.”

Psalm 8:1-2a “O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength...”
